The General Council of the Comboni Missionaries, on 11th March 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the Rule of Life (157.4), chose Father Austine Radol Odhiambo as the new Assistant General, to replace Father Luigi Fernando Codianni, who was elected Superior General on 21st February. Father Radol’s appointment will take effect on 1st April 2025 and will last until the end of the term of the current administration, the day the 20th General Chapter is convened in 2028. “The Council expresses its gratitude to Father Radol for his willingness to take on this assignment,” reads the communiqué sent yesterday to all the superiors of the Comboni circumscriptions. Father Austine Radol Odhiambo was born in Kobong Sub-Location, a locality in Siaya County (Kenya) on 27th November 1972. He entered the Institute with his first religious profession on 8th May 1999 in Namugongo (Uganda). From 1999 to 2004, he studied Theology in Innsbruck (Austria). On 19th August 2004 he was ordained a priest in the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Kisumu, Kenya.
Father Radol did his first pastoral work in Eritrea, where he arrived in November 2004. In June 2007, he returned home for a holiday, but was unable to return to Eritrea because of government restrictions on foreign missionaries. He was officially expelled in November 2007.
From February 2008 to June 2009, he was in Cairo (Egypt) to study Arabic. Unable to return to Eritrea, he was assigned to the province of Kenya, where he devoted himself mainly to missionary animation and vocational promotion.
From 1st January 2017 to December 2022 he was provincial superior of Kenya. At the end of his term and after a six-month sabbatical, he was assigned to the German-speaking Province (DSP) in June 2023. He is currently in the community of Nürnberg (Germany).
