From 20th to 22nd November, nine community bursars met in Juba for a meeting aimed at their formation. With them were also the provincial superior, Father Schmidt Gregor Bog-Dong, the outgoing provincial bursar, Brother Pomykacz Jacek Andrzej, and his next substitute, Father Zębik Krzysztof Adam. Father Luigi Codianni, Assistant General, who came from Rome, was also present. The three days turned out to be a true moment of formation, led by Father Codianni.
The bursars first presented the budgets of their respective communities and the projects planned for the year 2025. Father Codianni then briefly informed those present of the general situation of the Institute with regard to personnel and the challenges related to the commitment – which must be everyone’s – in the search for funds so as to make the Institute increasingly self-sufficient. He also outlined a number of points regarding economics and sustainability, referring to the decisions taken by the 19th General Chapter. Finally, he led a careful examination of the chapter on economics in the Code of Conduct.
A strong call emerged from the meeting for bursars to be truly ‘responsible’ people (in the sense of being ‘personally accountable’ for the execution of the tasks entrusted to them), because the economy today requires professionalism and specific skills.
Community bursars must not hesitate to help and even correct their confreres when necessary, and to collaborate with their superiors to regularly plan, implement and monitor both pastoral programmes and human promotion projects together.
