“We regret – writes Fr. Raimundo Rocha dos Santos – to have learned of the tragic death of two Comboni Missionary Sisters who died in a car accident in Brazil, this Saturday, 24 June. The accident took place in Santo Antônio do Matupi, in the Brazilian Amazon state, at around 9.00 am, when the two missionaries were on their way back from pastoral activities. It looks like the two sisters lost control of the MMC/L200 Triton Savana pick-up they were in. The vehicle overturned as they moved along an all-weather-dirty road. The two religious were found dead at the site, some 56km away from Humaitá. The two occupants of the vehicles were Sr. Luisa Manuel (Mozambique, 47 years old) and Sr. Giusy (Giuseppina Lupo, Italy, 37 years old). The two were taken to the cathedral of Humaitá for prayers.”
Luisa Manuel and
Giuseppina Lupo.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let the perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls, through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.

Luisa and Giusy were two young, joyful, generous sisters and very passionate for the mission. It is a big loss for the Comboni Family and for the local church of Humaitá. Let us pray for the two sisters who lost their lives, for their families and religious congregation and also for the people in the mission where they served. Surely we have two more saints in heaven.
