Fr. Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie, Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries, has written a letter to the Superiors and Treasurers of all Circumscriptions informing them of the decision taken by the General Council to set aside the sum of €20,000 to be given to the Comboni Province of South Sudan. The sum will be used to help the people most afflicted by the fratricidal war and by the “serious food situation which dooms to death by hunger millions of people, including many children.” Fr. Tesfaye also invites all the Comboni circumscriptions “to take concrete actions” in a show of solidarity. The text of the letter follows.

"Is not this the kind of fasting
I have chosen:…to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter… when you see the naked, to clothe them…, Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear
".
[Is 58:6-8]

Dear [confreres]:
At the conclusion of their meeting in Rome this last February, the superiors of circumscriptions sent a message of solidarity to the people of South Sudan, with the intention to soon transform it into a concrete act of solidarity from the entire Institute. Pope Francis himself, on February 22 had called South Sudan to the attention of the international community, “where to a fratricidal war a food crisis is added that dooms to death by hunger millions of people, including many children.”

The General Council sets aside the sum of €20,000 for the Comboni Province of South Sudan to be used on behalf of the people most afflicted by this tragedy.

We also invite all the circumscriptions to take concrete initiatives in order to witness to their solidarity. The General Treasurer’s office is available to facilitate the transmission of any collected help.

We ask you to let us know by the end of April the amount decided upon in order to allow the province of South Sudan to plan and organize the program.

Greetings and thanks to all for a prompt answer.
