Prosper Tehou, a young Comboni missionary from Benin, was ordained a deacon by Archbishop William Slaterry, ofm, on Sunday 15th January 2017, at St. Augustine’s Parish in Silverton, a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa. Some days before the diaconal ordination, on Friday 6th January 2017, Prosper took his perpetual vows in the chapel of the Comboni Centre, his present community. The ordination Mass was concelebrated by many confrères and priests friends of Prosper. Parishioners attended the celebration in a good number, with some friends and relatives of Prosper living in Pretoria.

As we are in this year of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of our Institute, the Archbishop in his homily emphasized a lot the figure of St. Daniel Comboni and quoted him as an example of a compassionate, good shepherd that Prosper is invited to imitate. Deacon Prosper was also challenged not to limit his ministry to the liturgical duties but should have the courage to embrace the mission at the peripheries of humanity.

After the Eucharist, the guests of Prosper and all the parishioners were treated to a refreshment. Prosper will continue his service in the South African Province up to April when he will go back to his country of origin to prepare for his priestly ordination.
