Last weekend, January 23, the General Councils of the Comboni Family met in Carraia (Lucca), home of the secular missionaries. There were: the Comboni missionary sisters, the Comboni Secular missionaries, the Comboni Missionaries and the Comboni Lay Missionaries (CLM). Like every year, this event helps us to become closer and attentive to the updates of each branch. The morning, after a time for prayer, was dedicate to share such developments.
The Comboni missionary sisters told us about their journey and especially the steps that they have taken to prepare their Chapter this year, as well as the reorganization of their group, taking into account the new realities. They prepare the Chapter starting with a firsthand experience in a concrete and challenging reality in every community, having as preferential reference persons the truly significant presences.
The Comboni Secular missionaries told us of their journey from the last assembly and the challenges that arose. The importance of re-appropriating their own history and to experience the charisma while remaining faithful to their everyday vocation, growing and trying to maintain a spirit of collaboration with the other secular institutes and the rest of the Comboni Family.
This year the new General Council of the Comboni Missionaries (MCCJ) told us about their way of preparing and conducting the General Chapter, gathering the reflections sent by each province and confrere and the inspiration they have received by Pope Francis. They also spoke of the central dimensions underlined by the Chapter: Mission, Persons and Re-organization.
The CLM, on the other hand, explained the great challenges that they are trying to pursue. Especially the one of seeking to strengthen each group and the CLM family in general, work with each group at continental level, the importance of communication, training and economy, ending with the commitment and challenge arising from the Comboni Family’s charism, shown in particular in our missionary work and witnessed by our missionary service.
Later in the afternoon, we had a period of reflection on The mercy in the life and mission of St. Daniel Comboni, based on the text of Fr. Carmelo Casile.
The day ended with the joint celebration of the Eucharist and dinner in a cordial atmosphere. In Carraia we felt very welcomed by the Comboni secular missionaries and enjoyed the good atmosphere that characterizes these meetings.
