The Comboni Missionaries of Brazil closed the Vocation Year and the celebrations for their 60 years of presence on Brazilian soil on the day when we remember the anniversary of the birth of St. Daniel Comboni, March 15, 1881. The closing ceremony was attended by members of the Comboni Family – priests, brothers, sisters and lay people – besides many friends, benefactors and cooperators.
The provincial superior of Brazil South, Fr. Alcides Costa, turned the closing of the Vocation Year and of the celebrations for the 60 years of presence in Brazil into a special moment of thanksgiving to God for all that has been accomplished: “It is an opportunity to thank the Lord for the marvels that he continues to operate through the missionary service which we carry out in various parts of Brazil. The witness of many people from various communities and of the local Churches where we are present confirms that the mission is His, that his Spirit continues to guide his Church and this is the reason why all the celebrations we have held during this year have been aimed at thanksgiving.” And he added: “Truly the Lord has done great things for us.”
Fr. Alcides ended the homily at the Mass of the closing feast remembering all the followers of Comboni: “We cannot forget the intercession of St. Daniel Comboni, who continues to live with his charism in many missionaries spread on four continents and in the prayers and generous cooperation of so many friends, benefactors and cooperators in the missionary work which the Comboni Family carries out here in Brazil.” And he concluded with these words: Thank you, Lord, Thank you, St. Daniel Comboni and thanks to the entire great Comboni Family.”
