On Friday 15th of June in the Comboni community of Krakow, Poland, there was a very important celebration: Danuta publicly declared her decision to join the Comboni Lay Missionaries (CLM) and to leave for the missions. She made her declaration during a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Gianni Gaiga, the Comboni superior in Poland. At the celebration there were the parents and friends of Danuta and some Comboni confreres. Danuta will work in the Matany Hospital, run by the diocese, for about two years, “to witness – she said – God’s love”.
Danuta has surrendered herself to the will of God with the heartfelt words of declaration: “Dear God, You are the Donor of life and vocation. Thank You for all the goods You gave to me, for my wonderful family and irreplaceable friends, as well as for the Comboni Missionaries and saint Daniel Comboni whose example we are to follow. I am immensely grateful to You for providing me with different signs and signals, with possibility to take part in various retreats, as well as with your Word and the Gospel, through which I had a magnificent occasion to recognize the beauty of missionary vocation. Let me voice today, before You and the whole Comboni community, my absolute will of ministration as a lay Comboni missionary. I surrender myself entirely to You, with all my skills and abilities, with everything that could serve those to whom You are sending me now. May Your power be reflected in my weaknesses, Your wisdom in my lack of knowledge, Your goodness and love in all my decisions and deeds. Please be generous with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May my life be the realization of Your dream that ‘we may have life, and have it abundantly’. Amen”.
Danuta will go to Uganda for approximately two years to be a “witness of God’s love”. As a Lay Comboni Missionary, she will help mostly in the hospital of Matany. This is the next step – said Fr. Gaiga – to expand our Comboni Family also by the members from Poland as well as to show saint Daniel Comboni’s work here. We are all very proud of Danuta and wish that there will be more Lay Missionaries willing to follow her.
