Brother Alberto Lamana, assistant general and reference advisor for APDESAM, visited the province of Egypt-Sudan from 1st to 10th November 2023. Because of the war in Sudan, he had to limit his visit to the five communities in Egypt (Aswan, Cordi Jesu, Helwan, Sakakini and Zamalek), where he was able to speak with each of the brothers and meet each community for a moment of ongoing formation.
On 2nd November, Br Alberto visited the brothers buried in Helwan, including brothers from the earliest periods of our presence, such as Father Daniel Sorour and Father Casimiro Giacomelli.
On Saturday 4 November, brother Alberto led a day of recollection for the four communities in the metropolis of Cairo, the reflections made by the Chapter and the themes of the Synod (communion, participation, and mission).
On Wednesday, 8th November, he connected online with the communities of Beirut, El Obeid, Port Sudan and Kosti. With these communities there was a very enriching sharing of the experiences that each one is living (unfortunately, the war is far from subsiding in Sudan and threatens also other countries in the Middle East).
To all he brought the greetings and encouragement of the General Administration, as well as appreciation for the commitment of all the brothers who face the current situations of uncertainty with missionary faith and pastoral generosity.
Brother Alberto’s visit ended with a fraternal moment of prayer and agape in which almost all the brothers present in Cairo were able to thank him for his sharing and for his precious contributions to the Province, which proudly walks on the same dust that was trodden by our Founding Father, St Daniel Comboni.
The whole Province is grateful to brother Alberto for his visit, and reminds him of the ancient Nilotic wisdom: “He who has drunk from the waters of the Nile is destined to return!”.
