Father Luigi Codianni, Assistant General in charge of the economic sector, and Father Angelo Giorgetti, General Bursar, last July visited the Comboni Province of Brazi. During their stay, they animated various activities.
Among the most important was a training course on economics, which was held at the scholasticate in São Paulo from 3rd to 7th July. Seven scholastics and five other confreres participated in the course. The aim of the course was to gradually introduce the participants to the complex world of economics.
The following week, from 10th to 15th July, the Continental Assembly of Treasurers of America-Asia was held. It was attended by provincial treasurers from eight circumscriptions: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, México, the North American Province, the Central American Province, Peru and Asia.
Various topics were discussed: the organisation of the ‘economic sector’ in one’s own circumscription; the implementation of the Chapter Acts with particular attention to the section on the economy; the care of elderly and sick confreres; the accounting plan and its impact on the aggregation of data; the availability of useful information for discernment at various levels; continental coordination of the ‘economic sector’.
The group had the grace to make a Marian pilgrimage to the Santuário Nacional da Basílica de Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida, the most important place of Catholic worship in Brazil. It was a day of relaxation, fraternal sharing and entrusting the work of the Assembly to Mary.
On their return to their provinces, the participants of the Continental Assembly felt the need to express their heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome given to them by the confreres of the Brazilian province and the Brazilian people.
