The Saturday of 26th February 2022 was a great day for Comboni Missionaries in Kenya as one of their confrere, Deacon Kevin Otieno Oduor was ordained priest together with another diocesan deacon Dennis. The celebration took place in the Archdiocese of Kisumu, where Kevin comes from. The Archbishop elect, Maurice Muhatia Makumba thanked the parents for allowing their children to work in the vineyard of the Lord.
His Grace gave his homily from the call of Jeremiah. He reminded them that they have been set apart by God to serve the people of God. Addressing the two priests, Kevin and Dennis, Archbishop Muhatia said, ‘you have been set apart by God, please remain faithful to the ministry you are about to receive.’ To the faithful present, the archbishop reminded them that Fr. Kevin and Fr. Dennis are not materials for marriage, “Please leave them to the church as that is the place they need to be.”
The celebration which was marked with colourful music and dancing was attended by the family of Fr. Kevin from Siaya, his hometown. It was in that celebration in which they communicated to the people of God that the archbishop elect will be installed officially as the third archbishop of Kisumu on the 19th of March 2022.
The celebration saw many confreres from Turkana, Pokot and Nairobi attending in plenty. In his speech, the provincial superior, Fr. Austin Radol thanked the Christians from the parish where Fr. Kevin comes from, and other persons involved in the preparation. He also thanked the Archbishop elect of Kisumu for accepting to ordain our brother to the order of priesthood. Fr. Kevin Oduor has been assigned to Kenya Province and will work in the parish of Kariobangi in Nairobi. Let us continue praying for him as he begins his ministry.
