On October 30, a big number of Christians gathered at the Mtepuwa parish church, in Malawi, to participate in the priesthood ordination of two Comboni missionaries from Malawi: Emmanuel Muhime and Matthew Kutsaile. This parish is close to the mountains of Mulanje, where the Comboni Missionaries started their missionary service 50 years ago.

The liturgy was beautifully prepared and presided over by Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa, Archbishop of Blantyre-Limbe, a formally Montfortian Missionary. In the eucharistic celebration were present the provincial superior of the Comboni Missionaries, Fr. Michael Mumba, together with two deacons: one from Malawi and the other from Zambia.

In his homily, Archbishop Msusa underlined the positive course that the church in Malawi is doing even if it is still a church that needs to be supported by the missionaries in some parishes and with all kinds of help in the formation of his diocesan seminarians. He was also glad to mention that now, with the ordination of the two new priests who have been assigned, Matthew to South Sudan and Emmanuel to Brazil, the local church has shown one more sign of their christian maturity. The assembly answered happily to the news clapping their hands. The liturgical celebration was followed by singing, dances and a common meal.

Fr Matthew Kutsaile comes from one outstation of Mtepuwa, the parish where he was ordained, and Fr. Emmanuel Muhime from another outstation, but in the parish of Chiringa, that used to be run by the Comboni Missionaries in the same area of Malawi.

We pray for their future missionary service, as well as for their local church, so that many other young people may come from their communities and become missionaries as well.
