Comboni Missionaries in the American continent: Progress in Afro pastoral

Afro Pastoral, a priority for the American continent ever since the 1985 Chapter, has recently made considerable progress both in coordination and modernisation. For some time, the representatives of the Pastoral in the circumscriptions of Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia (Fr. Anoumou Mossi Kuami Bernardin, Brasil; Fr. Laye Ayikoue Mawutodji Elysée, Peru; Fr. Raffaello Savoia, Colombia, Bro. Alberto Degan, Colombia, and Bro. Abel Dimanche, Ecuador) hold virtual meetings each month to share information, dialogue about common problems and encourage each other in this journey so much in line with the charism we have inherited from St. Daniel Comboni.
One of the areas in which progress is more evident is that of the organisation, digitalisation and diffusion of the huge amount of educational material we have, as Comboni missionaries, in the various Afro Centres of the above-mentioned provinces. Thanks to the help provided by Fr. Francisco Carrera, Director of “Iglesia sinfronteras” and the constant impetus given by Fr. Raffaello Savoia, a database has been created that is accessible on the website (afro.redbiblio.net), and it is possible to consult the available material in the different centres (books, videos, audio and documents of all sorts). Anyone, anywhere in the world, can view the lists of books and documents. One of these centres, the CAEDI in Bogota, already has its web page – centroafrobogota.com – with a relevant amount of documents which may be consulted and downloaded.

In October, the Afro-American Pastoral took the opportunity to honour the memory of Comboni with a new initiative that augurs well for the future. Thanks to the help of the General administration and some other European provinces, a server was installed with the name of Nas Sinfronteras, which is at the disposal of the four circumscriptions to bring the web all the documented resources kept in our centres.
