The superiors of the Comboni circumscriptions of English-speaking Africa and Mozambique (APDESAM) and of French-speaking Africa (ASCAF) met from 18 to 25 February in Nairobi (Kenya), for the annual meeting of evaluation and planning of activities at Continental level. All the circumscription superiors and two representatives of the Brothers at continental level were present, one from APDESAM and the other from ASCAF.
The agenda contained several important topics related to the missionary service of the Comboni Missionaries in Africa. The political, economic, social and ecclesial analysis of each country was made, and some common pastoral proposals were discussed, with the concern to give concrete answers and to face the real situations in the life of the populations with which the Comboni confreres work.
In addition to the themes of each subcontinent - Francophone Africa and English-speaking Africa and Mozambique - common and urgent topics were discussed, such as Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) in Africa, social and economic entrepreneurship for young people, interreligious dialogue, in particular with Islam, formation and academic preparation of the candidates of the Institute and of the young confreres, economic self-sufficiency of the various circumscriptions, interculturality and means of social communication, including the various Comboni magazines published in Africa.
Among the novelties of the meeting, there is the proposal to create a “Centre” that coordinates the activities of social entrepreneurship in the various circumscriptions in Africa. The proposal had the favourable support of the participants, convinced that the project could bear much fruit and have an impact on African society, especially among the youngest, which are most of the population. The name proposed for this centre is Comboni Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship (CASE).
The meeting ended on 25 February with a meeting of the circumscription superiors of APDESAM with the coordination team of New People Media Centre. Among the various topics, we talked about the promotion of the New People magazine and the enhancement of the Communication Centre, in Nairobi and in Africa.
