On January 13-20 the Comboni Missionaries working in Brazil met at the Holy Family Formation Center in São Paulo for their yearly retreat – preached by Marcelo Barros, Brazilian Monk Benedictine (standing in the picture below) – and for a brief assembly held to plan the activities of the next six years. “The main objective of this provincial assembly and retreat is to formulate the Plan of Action for the next six years, which will be presented for approval at the General Assembly to be held in September,” said Fr. Alcides Costa, Provincial Superior. “In the Plan – he explained – we hope to develop four priorities: Social-environmental areas, indigenous and Afro pastoral work, peripheries and human rights, and missionary and vocational promotion.”
It is not the first time that the Comboni Missionaries choose this venue for their meetings, because it strategically located and easily reached by the missionaries spread across eleven Brazilian States: Paraná, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Rondónia, Amazonas and Roraima.
