Gathered in Rome in the assembly of the General Chapter of their Institute, 68 representatives of the Comboni missionaries, hailing from 20 different nations and working in many countries in Africa, America, Asia and Europe, express their solidarity in a message to Fr. Alex Zanotelli. For a number of years in the Rione Sanità in Naples, he has been fighting for the rights of the people living in the area and has openly denounced the Camorra during the recent funeral of young Jenny, the latest victim of organized crime.

Fr. Alex Zanotelli,
Comboni missionary,
Italy.

Dear Father Alex,

We, the Comboni Delegates to the General Chapter of the Institute, wish to express our full support to your efforts in the Rione Sanità in Naples for the enhancement of life and human dignity in a situation marked by the culture of violence and dominated by organized crime.

We have appreciated the courage of your words in the denunciation of the Camorra during the funeral of the teenage Jenny, yet another victim of criminal violence, and your invitation to the community of the Rione Sanità not to give in, but to raise its head and work hard to build another Napoli able to look to the future with hope.

Aware of the delicate moment that you're going through we pledge our closeness and remembrance in prayer so that the Lord may accompany and protect you in making ‘common cause’ with women and men of good will for the rebirth of the Rione Sanità.
A fraternal embrace.
(Signed by 68 delegates to the Chapter)
