The Comboni Year of Ongoing formation (CYOF) started in Rome on September 19 with the three coordinators and a group of 20 participants of 11 different nationalities and coming from four continents. One of the participants, Fr. Massimo Ramundo, commented: “This dimension of inter-cultural exchange is a great gift. Just as also these months are a gift which the Lord and the Institute are giving us.” The CYOF will conclude at the end of May 2014.
Comboni Year of Ongoing Formation
2013-2014
The CYOF, lasting from September 203 to May 2014, is intended as a time of reflection for Comboni priests and brothers after between 10 and 15 years of mission experience. It is a time provided for missionaries to look back on their missionary life in the light of the Word of God and with the assistance of someone who will help them both spiritually and psychologically to improve their self-knowledge and to see where God wants to lead them in this phase of their life. Therefore, it is a privileged time for priests and brothers after about 15 years from ordination or perpetual profession to try to deepen and live more intensely the dimension of personal and community prayer, self-knowledge, community life and the Comboni dimension.
Fr. Massimo has told us that in the first sharings of the participants “almost all expressed the desire to take a deeper look at their own life and to allow themselves to be helped by others.” To explain the aim of the CYOF the missionary referred to the Gospel of Mark (Mk 6,30-31) – the apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them: “Come with me, alone, in a deserted place and rest a while” – he then concluded: “We can say that the CYOF is a time when we are called to take care of ourselves in order to be able to return to the mission renewed, with more energy, namely more serene within ourselves with our neighbor and with the Institute.”
