The Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries, Fr. Enrique Sánchez González, visited the confreres of the Italian province from April 5 to May 1. “It was a brotherly getting together, a time of communion among ourselves and with the entire Institute, a time which stimulated us to live our mission in Italy as a gift, giving a reason for and renewing our commitment,” said Fr. Corrado Masini, provincial superior of Italy.
The first stop of Fr. Enrique’s visit was at the community of Limone sul Garda: it was a meaningful encounter with Comboni and also with several confreres working in Europe, who in those days were taking part in the 7th Comboni Symposium in the home of San Daniel to reflect on missionary ministry in Europe. The last community visited was the community of the Motherhouse-Verona which houses several provincial offices, our publications and the multimedia center of the province. Between visits to these two places, so rich in meaning for the province and for the Institute, there took place the long “pilgrimage” to visit the other communities.
Fr. Enrique, accompanied by the provincial superior, Fr. Corrado Masini, had the opportunity to meet the confreres and to observe all the presences and missionary services of the province: mission promotion, youth and vocation pastoral, formation, evangelization, assistance to the elderly, the mission procure.
The four zonal assemblies, lasting one or two days, were the highlights of the visit: Padua, for the North-East; Brescia, for the North-West; Pesaro, for the central area; Bari, for the confreres of the southern zone. The Superior General presided over these four zonal assemblies that were articulated in four parts: the first, given to listening to the community; the second, given to the reaction-reflection of Fr. Enrique; the third, dealing with information on the Institute; the fourth, for prayer and the Eucharist that have always been an integral part of zonal meetings. The zonal meetings were always followed by a visit to the communities belonging to that zone.
The conclusion took place in Pesaro with two significant days: April 29, when Fr. Enrique took part in the provincial council meeting during which there was time for a lively sharing on the state of the province, and the following day, when he attended part of the assembly of Brothers on this year’s topic for ongoing formation: “Fraternity: Journeys of Reconciliation.”
“We thank Fr. Enrique, our superior general, for the time he gave us and for the stimulation he provided to help us deepen the quality of our own life and to qualify our missionary service,” said Fr. Corrado Masini at the end of the visit.
