“May the Lord, who conquered death and is the gift of the life of God, help us to live our missionary and Comboni vocation with the new spirit of men who have been truly resurrected.” These are the closing words of the Easter message sent by Fr. Enrique Sánchez González to all his Comboni confreres. Below we publish the message of the superior general and his council.
Dear Confreres,
We are journeying towards Easter. The mystery of the Passion, of the Cross and of the suffering of the Lord is before our eyes while we contemplate the reality and the dramatic events of many of our brothers and sisters. The Cross and suffering that the Lord carries on his shoulders are the tears and the sorrows that at this moment are experienced in many of our missions, among our people, but also in our provinces and communities. We live in times that are not easy, but we have not forgotten that the Lord is near to all of us. These are times that make us experience our weakness and our poverty, but we want to believe that exactly today we are called to live our hope and our trust in the Risen Lord. These are times that make us go through sorrow and darkness towards the light and the certainty that the Lord never abandons us.
Let us live in silence, in contemplation, in abandonment and in faith these days that show us the Lord in the simplicity and in the depth of his mystery of redemption, salvation, and love lived up to the ultimate consequences. Let us silence our words, our thoughts, our human desires in order to let every moment of life donated by the Lord to us, to our communities, to our families, to all of humanity speak. Let us take care not to make noise in order to capture, beyond the cries of our world and the anguish of our hearts, the song which on the cross becomes a gift that offers life that will never end.
Let us turn these blessed days in a extended time of prayer in order to enter in the heart of the Lord, accompanied by all those people we carry with us. Let us pray in thanksgiving for the gift of the Lord’s faithfulness, who continues to believe in us. Let us pray and ask for the grace to grow in faith in order to make God the sole possession of our life. Let us pray and open our hearts to the gift of hope which may help us look at the future with trust and joy and let us allow ourselves to be surprised by the Risen Lord.
To all we wish a Holy Easter. May the Lord, who conquered death and is the gift of the life of God, help us to live our missionary and Comboni vocation with the new spirit of men who have truly been resurrected.”
