The general assistants Fr. Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie and Bro. Daniele Giovanni Giusti are visiting officially the Comboni province of Mozambique on August 6-27. On August 24 was dedicated to the conclusion of the Years of Memory in Carapira/Nampula with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the death of Bro. Alfredo Fiorini.
The visit of Fr. Tesfaye and Bro Giusti to the Comboni province of Mozambique started on August 6. After a first meeting with the confreres of the community of Maputo, held at the Postulancy of Matola, the visit continued in Tete, a large center of the district of Cahora Bassa, the energy and mining center of the country. In this city the Comboni missionaries take care of the shantytown parish dedicated to the Martyrs of Uganda in Matundo, a suburb of the city across the river Zambezi. From Tete our confreres also take care of the far away historic parish of Marara.
The visit had its most significant moment in the meeting that took place in Chitima (about 120 km from Tete towards the border with Zimbabwe, an entire zone of first evangelization). Here converged all the confreres in a meeting of m mutual understanding and of consideration of the topics related to evangelization of the area and of the Institute at large.
From Tete the visit to Mozambique of the assistant generals moved to the diocese of Beira, always in the central area of Mozambique, in the community of Muxungue, about 120 km south of the crossroad of the national road that links Tete and Beira. Here work Fr. Mejia González José Luis, Fr. Filip Andrzej Jan and Fr. Giocondo Pendin (currently on vacation). Particularly moving was the Sunday liturgy of August 12 with the small community of Muxungue center and then the meeting with the 4 Comboni Sisters who work in the parish of Mangunde, at 45 km inland from the road of Muxungue. Fr. Ottorino Poletto, in charge of the project that helps the schools and the dispensary of Muxungue, joined them. Together they shared tdheir Sunday meal.
