Solidarity with the victims of Tsunami
Dear Provincial and Delegation Superiors,
With my greetings I renew also my best wishes for the new year.
The reason for this letter is clear for everyone to see: many of our brothers and sisters have been plunged into suffering and distress by the Tsunami tidal wave which has hit them. It is something that touches us to the heart and makes us think. We who, as a Missionary Institute, know the pain and suffering of many people on account of war, drought and poverty of many kinds, in this moment we feel deeply involved and drawn to respond to these populations.
In those devastated areas work, in cooperation with the local Church and the civil authorities, religious brothers and sisters of ours committed to the mission in the world and who belong to various Missionary Institutes. To them we wish to pledge the assurance of our prayers, practical support and concern.
We ask you, therefore, in brotherly communion and in the Comboni spirit, to join your efforts to those of the General Administration, sending what from your poverty you can afford, with the same charitable generosity that characterised our Founder.
You may inform the Treasurer General the amount of your contribution as soon as you are in a position to do so. All that we shall collect will be donated to the Missionary Institutes that are working in those countries that have been hit by the disaster.
It is a great opportunity that God gives us: making ourselves poor with the poor, helping them out of our own poverty.
I thank you in anticipation for whatever you’ll be able to afford and entrust all of you to the protection of St. Daniel Comboni and to the power of Him who is Mercy and Love.
Greeting you with brotherly affection,
Fr. Teresino Serra, Superior General
and General Council
