Many people have reportedly fled the villages in Yeri because of the worsening food situation. Bishop John Abraham Nyari, spoke with Francis Felix Katie and begun by describing the situation of the hungry people in Yeri.
President Salva Kiir has declared a three-month state emergency in the North-Western part of the country. The president invoked the state of emergency in a decree read on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Television evening news on Monday night. According to the decree, a lock down has been declared in Gogrial State, parts of Tonj, Wau and Awiel East States. Radio Miraya understands that there has been intensified inter-ethnic clashes in the Greater Bahr el Ghazel region in recent months. In another development, the President has relieved six SPLM – IO representatives from the transitional legislative assembly.
The members are T. G Daud Deng, Stephen Mach Malual, and Emannuel Dumo Gem. The others are Mohamed chom Ayen, Christopher Gawer Chiekchol and Abraham Majak Malith. He also appointed 4 new members to replace the 6 that have been evicted from parliament. The new appointees are: Micheal Woul Dau Kiir, Manyang Mayen Kuony, Alfred Taban and Ajok Dok Ajak.
