Dilexit nos, Francis’ encyclical for a world that seems to have lost its heart

Pope Francis’ fourth encyclical on devotion to the Heart of Jesus was published today. The Pontiff had announced this last June. The encyclical brings together reflections from previous magisterial texts and is released in the year of celebrations - 27 December 2023 to 27 June 2025 - for the 350th anniversary of the first manifestation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673. After Lumen fidei, Laudato si’ and Fratelli tutti, this encyclical Dilexit nos invites us to “recover what is most important and necessary: the heart”, in a world “surviving amid wars and imbalances”.
